The Gun Beer Cathedral

The opportunity

The challenge was to imbue a new build site with a strong sense of place, heritage, and a contemporary twist. Building on Spitalfields history for artillery factories and the site of an alehouse from 1731the space and proposition needed to be ambitious, exciting, and relevant.

Our response

In developing a proposition reinforced with a relevant look and feel, we drew together key elements from the history of the site with a location between the financial powerhouse of the City and the multi-cultural creative scene of East London.

Taking reference from the highly engineered firearms the location was famous for – whilst avoiding the obvious visual references – the interior structure and palette was informed by utilitarian beauty and honesty to materials.

We blended this with a warm and inviting feel to create a unique space and customer experience. A towering beer cathedral forms the central bar with a 100 keg backbar spanning three floors, topped with a DJ gantry. Our own team shot bullets into the glass and brass panels that make up the backbar and staircase decorative panels.
