The ambition was not simply to expand the accommodation offering, but to craft an immersive Hebridean retreat to deepens guests’ connection to the distillery.

our response
Perched above the distillery and looking out across the Sound of Raasay to Skye's Cuillin mountains, our cabins extend the brand world into the landscape itself - creating an immersive hospitality experience rooted in craftand quiet luxury.
We developed a masterplan that turns topography into opportunity. The cabins cascade down the hillside, carefully oriented to preserve privacy despite close proximity, while maximising panoramic views.
Discreet access and parking are positioned to the rear, keeping vehicles out of sight, with stepped pathways descending towards the distillery and restaurant, supported by stone-filled gabion retaining walls that anchor the development into the terrain.
The programme includes two bespoke guest cabin types, a series of private sauna cabins, and a larger communal cabin designed as a social hub for whisky tastings, private dining and gatherings. Together, they create a layered hospitality experience — from secluded retreat to shared celebration.

An IMMERSIVE RETREAT
Inspired by Scotland’s traditional bothies, the cabins reinterpret vernacular forms with contemporary precision.
Simple silhouettes and natural materials sit comfortably within the island’s rugged geology, while floor-to-ceiling glazing frames the ever-changing drama of sea and mountain, dissolving the boundary between inside and out.
Inside, warm timber linings, luxury linens, soft bathrobes and handcrafted Hebridean textiles establish a tactile sense of calm. Island-inspired artwork and subtle references to whisky-making reward the curious, ensuring the interiors feel authentic rather than applied.

LANDSCAPE-LED DESIGN
Every element — from siting and materiality to detailing and guest experience — reinforces a light-touch philosophy. Sustainability, craft and brand storytelling are seamlessly integrated into functional hospitality design.
Na Bothain is more than accommodation; it is an architectural expression of Raasay’s spirit — where landscape, design and whisky coexist in quiet harmony, offering guests an experience as distinctive and memorable as the dram itself.
